WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE Acupuncture is a therapeutic technique that was born as part of Chinese medicine and used to treat many diseases, especially pain.

Today, however, it is also finding interest and application in Western medicine.

According to Chinese medicine, the health of the organism (including the reproductive system) depends on the harmonious relationship between the Mind (Shen) and the energetic functions (Qi) of the Body.

Vital energy would flow along a network of channels called "meridians".

Consequently, every pathology could be traced back to an anomaly in the energy circulation, either as a deficit or excessive accumulation of this energy. HOW ACUPUNCTURE IS PERFORMED The stimulation of particular points on the meridians through the insertion of very thin needles into the dermis would allow the anomalous energy flow to be unblocked or reactivated, restoring health and well-being to the body.

With Acupuncture the needles are positioned in some specific points along the path of the meridians in various points of the body.

For infertility and assisted reproduction these points are found in the hands and feet.

HOW LONG DOES AN ACUPUNCTURE SESSION LAST Once applied, the needles are left in place for between 30 and 45 minutes. HOW MANY TIMES IS ACUPUNCTURE PERFORMED FOR INFERTILITY AND ASSISTED REFERENCE? 3 times represents the minimum number of applications. DOES ACUPUNCTURE CAUSE PAIN? Usually the site of needle application does not cause any pain or discomfort.

Indeed, at the end of the session you often experience a feeling of well-being and relaxation.

WHAT ARE THE RISKS OF ACUPUNCTURE? Significant negative consequences are rare, especially in relation to the enormous number of treatments performed around the world.

Sometimes some local skin reaction is described such as light bleeding or modest pain.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ACUPUNCTURE IN ASSISTED REFERENCE In clinical practice and in scientific literature the following are described or hypothesized: 1 Increase in beta endorphins (the so-called "happiness" hormone) 2 Increase in blood flow (also in the ovaries) 3 Reduction in negative autoimmune reactions 4 Promotion of angiogenesis (i.e. formation of new blood vessels) 5 Promotion of embryo implantation 6 Increase of the growth factor IGF (involved in embryonic implantation) 7 Maintenance of balance in the Hypothalamus (deep part of the brain) -Ovary axis WHAT ARE THE COSTS OF ACUPUNCTURE? They are limited
